Message from the President

East Village (EV) is the largest urban neighborhood in downtown San Diego. EV is undergoing a Renaissance-like transformation. In 2009, the East Village Association (EVA) formed the East Village Business Improvement District (EV BID). A BID is a formal organization of business owners, property owners, residents, and associated members who are dedicated to promoting economic development and enhancing a neighborhood’s quality of life. Businesses in a defined area pay an additional fee that funds improvements within the BID’s boundaries. A BID creates a stable local management structure that supports revitalization.

This annual report covers FY 2011, from July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2011. I am confident that East Village will continue to transform into a vibrant, livable, urban community. I wish to thank the EVA Board of Directors, City of San Diego, County of San Diego, San Diego Police Department, San Diego Metropolitan Transit System, Centre City Development Corporation, Centre City Advisory Committee, Downtown Partnership/Clean & Safe program, BID Council, East Village Association members, residents, property owners, volunteers and countless citizens who have helped to launch the East Village BID.
